Roads of Lands Remote is our family’s guide to travel, food and the places we have called home. We are from Copenhagen and currently live in Singapore with our two children. Our family has also lived in Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, Dublin and on Koh Phangan in Thailand, plus a shorter stay in Las Vegas. Earlier chapters took us to Afghanistan, Ghana, the Netherlands, Indiana, Illinois and Oregon.

Our guides draw on family life in those places and on trips elsewhere, including visits to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui while we lived in Thailand, and family trips to Paris. Our second child arrived after our time in New York. We share practical details we found useful when planning days out with children, alongside the food and places that made each destination memorable.

We use a family byline to keep our children's names and daily lives private. When a guide says we lived somewhere or visited a place, it refers to our family's experience; a visit is not presented as residence.

How we make and update our guides

We start with our own stays, meals and trips, then check practical details against current official sources where possible. We say when a recommendation reflects an earlier visit, since opening hours, prices, amenities and businesses can change. Each article shows its original publication date and, when revised, its latest update date. Please verify time-sensitive details with the venue before you go.

If you spot an error or have a newer firsthand update, contact us. We review corrections and update the guide when we can verify them.

Where a guide has one clear destination or venue, readers can rate that place based on their own visit. Guides covering several places invite comments without a combined place rating. Comments are reviewed before they appear; we may reject spam, advertising, private information or abusive content. Reader contributions are separate from our own recommendations.

Some guides contain paid links. They are disclosed at the start of the article and near the recommendations. We may earn a commission if you buy or book through them, at no extra cost to you. A commission does not determine which places we include or recommend. If a business provides a complimentary stay, meal or other benefit for coverage, we will disclose that in the relevant article.

Read our privacy notice for how the site handles data.

Behind the name

The name comes from the quote by the Danish author H.C. Andersen. ‘To move, to breathe, to fly, to float. To gain all while you give. To roam the roads of lands remote. To travel is to live’.
